Someone I admire

Sometimes architecture it seems to be a field that pertains to an elite, and that group of people is the one who enjoy and lead all about the subject. Even some architects are agree with the fact that architecture doesn't envolve the people that is going to live it.

I think this is not the case. Solano Benitez was born in 1963, Asunción, Paraguay. He is an architect and a teacher in many univeristies in Latin America, including Chile.

He thinks that architecture is not dedicated to a particular group of people because of their rent; not for marginalized people and not for privileged ones. He believes architecture belongs to everyone. Besides he talks about architects as builders of a society and I think that's the point, because every intervention, it has it's consequences in people's life, as individuals and as a plural group. There is no exception.

Another thought that is really relevant about him, is that architecture is an experimental process, because if is not, it doesn't work in any way. One of the results of his experimentations are the shapes and the way that he uses his iconic element: The brick. Solano chose that material because of the price and because there is a lot in Paraguay. The result is surprising. With intensive work he could "transform scarcity into abundance".
